PostgreSQL Server Benchmarks: Epilogue
08 Jan 2013
So uh, it’s been about 18 months since my last post. I lost steam in the middle of the PostgreSQL tuning series and just never got back to it. I’ve wanted to write about other things but felt I couldn’t without first finishing the series. I’m disappointed in myself for letting it get to this point. If you were following the tuning series, I apologize for leaving you in the lurch.
There have been two major releases of PostgreSQL in the time since my last post, and the majority of the work in the 9.2 series has been focused on performance. I no longer have access to the hardware I was working with before, so I can’t redo my database tuning with 9.2.1. Unfortunately, this means that the data and recommendations I have are largely irrelevant.
Fortunately, the posts on hardware tuning are still useful and relevant, if somewhat dated. Again, I apologize for dropping the ball, and I hope some day to be able to update and complete the entire series on new hardware with whatever version of PostgreSQL is current at the time.
Thanks for sticking with me through the long silence.
